DW fanfic challenge to self!

Okay guys, I've seen something like that done on my Verliebt in Berlin fandom, and I loved it so much that I thought I'd give it a try for Doctor Who.

So here's the concept: you guys give me words and I have to write one sentence related to each of the said-words to sum up the relationship between characters, or any defining moment, or even just one character's personality. Or anything related to DW, really.

A few examples from Lysine's Verliebt in Berlin version of those "50 sentences" so you see what I mean (the text is by Lysine, the translation is by me)

Happiness:
"There was a time when any attention from David would make her ecstatic; these days, all she has to do to feel good is take a glance at her left hand."

Ears:
"Who knew there were so many erogeneous zones and that David Seidel knew them all?"

Sex:
"She swears to God after their first time that nothing can ever be better, and David spends the rest of the night proving her wrong."

See what I mean?

So go on, give me your words, and I'll do my best!

Kaethel :)

X-posted to [info]kae_nine - PLEASE POST ALL REQUESTS FOR WORDS THERE - thanks!!

I've been tagged!

And this time, by [info]wendymr ... can't ignore that:! :)

WRITER'S MEME: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of the top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Let's give this a try:

1) Near Wild Heaven
Granted, I'm still writing the second half, but this one will always be special to me. First, because it's one of the first fanfics I've ever written. Second, because the themes in it are special to me. I truly do want to finish the second part asap. Now if only the Muse would let me!

2) Surfacing Memories
I chose this one because I had the hardest time writing it, and when it was finally done I felt satisfied with it, which is pretty rare for me!

3) Whisper From the Dying
Special because it was written with my partner *and* very good friend [info]wendymr, and I had an absolute blast swapping the file back and forth with her. When the Muse finally returns, Wendy, I'd love to write with you again. :)

4) An Unexpected Valentine
I've written a lot of short stories, but this one is probably the one I hold dearest. Can't truly explain why. Somehow it was easy to write, it just flew to the keyboard in a couple of days...

5) Link Unavailable Yet
I wanted to leave room for another fanfic, which I will hopefully write in the future once the Muse returns. I want to be enthusiastic about writing again!!!! I'm desperate, actually. :)

Doctor Who's Doomsday and Grey's Anatomy's Losing my Religion

Tonight the S2 finale of Grey's Anatomy aired on TV, and so I didn't move from the couch. You know, it's pretty rare for me to really, really cry when watching something on TV, but for some reason, it happened twice this year.

Warning: SPOILERS for Grey's Anatomy's Losing My Religion and Doctor Who's Doomsday.

First time was last summer when I watched Doctor Who's Doomsday. It all built up from when Rose was ripped away from the Doctor, slammed her hands against the wall separating them, cried all the tears of her heart... then built up again because of the famous "wall music"... then built up again when they met again on the beach, and when she told him she loved him and he didn't have time to say it back, tears just fell.

It happened again tonight. Over the past weeks, I've become a huge fan of a show called Grey's Anatomy. Weird, considering I never got into ER. But then GA doesn't have that much blood (which is what put me off ER), and it has an impossible romance, which creates angst. I'm a sucker for impossible romance in fictions, and Derek and Meredith just fit the bill. Plus the fact that Derek is SO my type of man didn't hurt...

And so tonight I cried. And cried. And cried. Again, it all built up, first with Izzy throwing away her career to save Denny's life, then with Derek getting jealous over Meredith's relationship with Finn, then with Burke getting shot, then when FINALLY Derek and Meredith made passionate love in a moment that was so desperate it was hopeless. And then after building up throughout the entire episode, it just exploded into tears and sobs when Denny died. I cried with Izzy. I *sobbed* with Izzy.

*sniffle*

I adore that show. I truly do. And I can't wait for Season 3!

First day back to school

I spent the past few weeks dreading it, but it's finally happaned. No way around it. Nothing to do about it. Day after day it was getting closer, and fearing it didn't change the outcome.

Back to school.

Yep.

Yesterday we had our first admin meeting, got our new material (after a big scare when we realised a couple of teachers' material - including mine - hadn't been delivered; thankfully it got delivered later that day), then started preparing lots of material.

Today was the first day with the kids. It's always exciting but also very scary. All the parents were there, staring at us. One of the first graders' parents already screamed scandal because she wanted her kid to be in my first/second grade class as opposed to Sylvie's first grade. She probably imagines I teach an hybrid first/second grade. Why don't people realise that vertical grouping just means the teacher switches between the two levels all the time and not that we teach a high-level first grade / low-level second grade???

Anyway, I have 25 kids in my class. Quite a lot for a class with vertical grouping actually, especially as there are always extra kids who arrive during the year, so I might end up with 27 or 28 by the end of the year. Right now there are 13 first graders and 12 second graders, and while most of them seem to behave, I have:
- one kid who doesn't seem to react to anything I ask,
- one kid who can't even write his name in capital letters (let alone cursive!)
- two kids who talk and talk and talk and talk about anything anytime anywhere,
- one kid who whistles in class, makes noises with his mouth and basically doesn't respect any of the rules.

Oh joy.

Anyway, the day went mostly okay, but I do feel different from previous years. I introduced myself as Ms *insert real last name here*, as opposed to first name + last name. I was wearing a tailored suit and I looked much more serious and adult, plus I kept that pose all day and kept my distance from the kids. I'm not their friend; I'm their teacher. And it actually went better. I felt I had more authority on them. :)

Anyway, better get back to preps now. Or maybe dinner first!

Geek 03

Yep, I'm Geek 03! Set up my own home network. My computers are now sharing both printers and a few files I always need (like fanfic, work stuff and all). And I did all that by myself!!!! In about an hour, too. Didn't take me all day. So I'm very, very happy! Here's hoping Geek 01 and Geek 02 accept me in their very hush-hush club. ;)

Happy thoughts of the day

Yep, plural! Haven't posted one in a while so might as well work extra hard. ;)

1) Mastercards are wonderful. They should add something to their commercial, actually: Mastercards can be washed at 40 degrees in a washing machine... and still work afterwards. Amazing, isn't it? Yep, thought so, too. Is that what they call money laundering? *g*

2) Cleaned my study today and it didn't even take me the whole day. Just a couple of hours. I'm quite proud of myself and will reward myself with a burger from McDonald's. Yay me!

3) I love my pussycat. Yes, yes, you know, but I just had to say it again. ;)

Time to make a decision

Yesterday I rode a bike for the first time in 10 years. Granted, I went beyond anything I ever thought I could do, and I was extremely happy to finally be able to do something that seemed beyond my own limits.

The friends I rode with are leaving on Wednesday for the South of France, where they've planned a bike ride along a very famous canal. It consists of 80 km every day, but it's a very pretty area, and a very exciting trip. And they've asked me to join them. At first I was very enthusiastic, then I realised how hard it was to ride for more than 40 km.

So I decided not to come along. Would've been a nice trip, though!

Turning my LJ into an all-pink thing was SUCH a great idea!! It made [info]un_sedentary 's eyes bleed so much that she decided to show me how to use a customly-made background on my LJ. I'm bouncing around everywhere because I love doing that so much!!!!!!!!

Thank you SOOOOO much, Jules!

MICKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, not the big-eared Disneyland one.

I'm talking of Mickey the tin-dog. Mickey from Doctor Who. Mickey, Rose's rejected boyfriend.

We just watched Age of Steel, and he was a true hero once again. Always considered the useless, idiot sidekick who has no more brains than a tin dog, but he was brilliant!! He saved the day AGAIN! Just like he knows how to do, without expecting any gratefulness on Rose's or the Doctor's part. And I'm sorry to say I found the Doctor being a total jerk with him throughout the episode. Okay, so Mickey was a bit whiny in season 1, but then his girlfriend kind of strayed towards the Doctor - anyone would get a little pissed off with that. I love the Doctor, I truly do, but with Mickey he was not on. And okay, the whole Mickey the idiot had become a running joke and in the end it looked like the Doctor had changed his opinion on Mickey, but STILL!

Please, don't remind me we're talking about fictional characters here. ;)

Anyway, I totally understand Mickey's decision to stay in that parallel universe where his grandma still lives. True, there's Rose, but like he said, it's all about the Doctor now. She cares for him as a friend, but no more. Wendy said he reappears in Doomsday, and I truly hope that means Doomsday is what I'm hoping it is.

Though knowing that, I already know I'll cry buckets over it. :P
